From spring to Christmas, the Madeline-Jolly gallery devoted to Jean Cocteau’s graphic and plastic work invites you to discover his poetic universe through : the original edition of ceramics, workshop-sketches as well as lithographies, serigraphies, sculptures and jewels.
There the visitor will find again all themes which have inspired his life: mythology, whose the great figures nourrished Jean Cocteau’s theatre and poetry.
His affection for the South, and particularly Etrurian Italy which urged him to become a ceramist.
Also Venice and Harlequins, Greece, Spain and bullfights, the Mediterranean, its lascivious fishermen, fauna and attractive “chèvre-pied” mark his romantic work.
Faces, double-faces, couples, profiles as well as odes to beauty are lavishly illustrated in portraits which the Poet engraved in clay.
